The western society that we live in is constantly striving for more and more and more.  We believe that our efforts will lead us down the path to success and happiness.

But, more often than not, we’re left feeling stressed and overwhelmed, with true success and happiness still out of reach.

Then, there are “those” people we admire, who seem to have it all figured out.  You know the ones I’m talking about.  Those who appear to have abundance in all areas of their life-finances, health & fitness, family, friends, work, etc.

It seems that whatever they touch turns to gold.

What makes those people so great?  What sets them apart from the herd?  What are their secrets to success and happiness?

The people that truly live fulfilling lives often share similar optimistic attitudes and approaches towards life.

4 Secrets to their Success and Happiness

  1. They Don’t Procrastinate

Do you want a better job?  Do you want a healthier body? Do you want more free time?

You likely answered yes to all of these questions.  But what is holding you back from achieving them?  Why are you procrastinating?

People often think that procrastination is the result of laziness and disorganization.  But, that’s not usually the case.  Procrastination often occurs for 3 main reasons:  Fear of failure, fear of success, or needing everything to be perfect before you make a change (which will never happen).

Truly successful people know that procrastination is useless.  It will get you nowhere.

Rather, they strategically focus on what they want and they go get it.  Below are some thoughts and actions they consider important:

  • Take the first step.
  • Fear is not an option.
  • Avoid perfectionism; good enough is good enough.
  • Organize a plan-of-action.
  • Brush up on time management skills.
  • Set small, achievable, and measureable goals every day that will lead you to your ultimate goal.
  • Focus on the solutions, not the problems.
  • Be optimistic, not pessimistic.
  1. They Let Go of the Opinions of Others

It’s natural to want to be liked and seek approval, up to a point.  But if you’re so self-conscious that you’re watching you’re every move in order to impress, accommodate, prevent standing out, and ensuring others approval, then you have a problem.

Successful and happy people understand that obsessing over external validation is futile.

Rather, they have thoughts such as:

  • I know I’ll do great with this! (ie: positive self-judgement /self-confidence).
  • It’s impossible to please everyone.
  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and perspective.
  • My opinion of myself matters more than what others think of me.
  1. They Meditate

Meditation is a powerful tool that is practiced by many successful and happy people.  They practice meditation because they know it has the ability to take them from ordinary to extraordinary.

  1. They are Decisive

Indecision feels terrible.  It can be downright draining.

Do you struggle with indecisiveness on a regular basis?  If you do, it’s important to start making decisions on your own.  Begin with making small choices and work your way up.  Turn decisiveness into a habit.  In time you’ll build up your confidence.

Being decisive is an important trait to have when it comes to being successful and happy.

Those who are great decision makers share common thoughts such as;

  • I trust myself.
  • I don’t need to fear making a decision.
  • I learn from failure and mistakes.
  • Decisions aren’t always set in stone. I can change my decision later, if necessary.
  • If I’m on the fence between two choices, I’ll flip a coin!

Final Thoughts

There are many other secrets to success and happiness besides the ones mentioned here.  But what you must recognize is the commonalities amongst them all.

Those who have figured out how to rule this world all share similar attributes.  They are confident, focused, resilient, and inspired.   They are optimists at heart and they trust that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
